'House of the Dragon' Season 2 episode 6: The big dragon twist, and unexpected kiss (2024)

Everything was going fine in the latest episode of 'House of the Dragon' Season 2, and then the last 10 minutes turned the show upside down. New dragons were introduced and a totally unexpected make-out scene threw an interesting curveball.

Episode 6 began with Rhaenyra finally executing her plan of calling out dragonseeds to claim the dragons residing at the dragonmont. However, the dragons show her it's not that easy as soon as she enters the pit. Seasmoke, an unclaimed dragon, burns Ser Steffon Darklyn, a dragonseed, in front of Rhaenyra and her son, Jacaerys, making her doubt her initial decision.

Back in Harrenhal, Daemon Targaryen has another nightmare after which, finally, he decides to leave the cursed castle. He tells Alyss, the witch, that something is happening to him at the castle, and it feels like someone is poisoning his body and mind. He then asks her for help, and she suggests he stays there for three more days to see things changing on their own. Daemon follows.

A helpless Alicent and her sorry face!

At the King's Landing, Alicent Hightower faces more insults during the council meeting with her son, Aemond Targaryen, leading as the king regent. After ignoring her at the council, he asks her to leave her seat at the table and devote her time to other things. "The crown will always be grateful to you", he tells his mother, ordering her to recluse herself from these meetings and decisions regarding the kingdom. As if this blow isn't enough, she witnesses the anger and frustration among small-folk while coming out of the Red Keep. Her guards are killed, and she has to run for her life as people curse her and her family for not looking after them in times of war.

Will Rhaena finally get a dragon?

Rhaena, Daemon and Laena Velaryon's daughter, is protecting queen Rhaenyra's son while walking through the Vale. It cannot be an accident that she stumbles upon a very large, dark patch - the kind of which is only created by a dragon mounting the soil. She also finds a burnt sheep at the place and doesn't take another second to figure there's a dragon on the loose there. She confronts her keeper, The Lady of the Vale, who tells her that a beast has been flying through these skies for a long time in search for food. "It is large and formidable, but alas, wild," she tells her. Who is this new dragon now?

Seasmoke, Silverwings and Vermithor are already resting in the dragonmont at the Dragonstone. This new scaly dragon, while not revealed, could very well be the Sheepstealer, who is known for hunting sheep. It has been flying unclaimed for over 70 years, as per George RR Martin's book 'Fire and Blood'. If all the foreshadowing is to be considered, Rhaena, who has failed to claim a dragon in the past, could very well be the new owner of Sheepstealer. But, that's not the most intriguing part of the episode.

A new romance could be budding at the Dragonstone. With Daemon gone for a while, ignoring Rhaenyra and also trying to sabotage her claim to the iron throne, the queen might just find a new lover. Who is this new lover now? The question seems completely out of syllabus because, well, who has time to take on a new relationship amid a raging war? Especially a forbidden one?

A bisexual queen? Yes, please

In the last few seconds of the episode, Rhaenyra shares a deep, passionate kiss with her new secret advisor, Mysaria. The latter, who's an ex-mistress of Daemon, comes to the queen's chamber to thank her for trusting her and giving her life a new meaning. She also confides in her about being sexually abused by her father in childhood and how she could never bear a child because of everything she went through. Rhaenyra offers her sympathy, runs to give her some comfort with a warm hug. And that slowly leads to a passionate embrace, a peck on the neck, slow gazing of the eyes, and a never-ending kiss. Their intimacy grows fonder before they are interrupted by the news of Seasmoke's mysterious rider, making the Queen immediately fly out of the Dragonstone on Syrax.

Episode 6, despite its slow start, ended with one of the most fascinating cliffhangers this season. Ample hints were thrown about new dragons and new dragonriders and the revelation of Rhaenyra's bisexuality made her equation (or distance?) with Daemon so interesting. It is to be seen how the one-eyed prince lets his teenage aggression not take the best of him. Also, where is Rhaenyra going from here? Oh! And Seasmoke (the dragon we mentioned in the very beginning) finally chose Adamm Velaryon, the bastard of Lord Corlys Velaryon of Driftmark and Marilda Hull, as his rider.
